Oral care is a very important part of our general health and it is through the mouth that we are able to get so many diseases that we need to take care of our teeth on very regular basis. However, there are some other factors that can cause oral problems. They can include the kind of toothpaste that we use to clean our teeth or the amount of times that we visit our dentists. How much we listen to his advice on taking care of our teeth also plays a role. Then there are other problems that will include the use of common things like tobacco.
Smoking is not good for our teeth. Gum diseases like periodontal disease can cause the bone that supports the teeth to be lost, and the teeth will become loose and it will fall at no time. In fact, smokers lose their teeth in this manner very often and the severity of the loss is 7 times more than the non-smokers.
In addition, any kind of surgery needs a special environment to be able to heal properly. It has been seen that people that smoke have many problems being properly healed. It has also been seen that if you are a smoker, then an implant may become a failure altogether, therefore surgeons advice those that smoke to either quit smoking or not to undergo the surgery at all, because the results may be totally useless.
Cancers of the mouth are very common among smokers. Now day’s dentists are also undergoing periodical tests to rule out mouth cancers when you visit the dentist especially if you are a smoker.
Last but not the least, smoking stains your teeth making them look yellow and discolored and this can cause for your teeth to become very sensitive because you will need to get them cleaned on very regular basis.
